LYT 2022-2023
Our second cohort — New faces, stronger bonds
LYT 2022-2023
The Latinx Youth Theatre (LYT) made significant strides during its 2022-2023 cohort, building on its inaugural success. Lead by Carlos Ossa, Camila Robinson-Rodriguez and Miguel Umba, and produced by The Working Party, this phase introduced new elements and deepened its impact on participants and the community.
LYT engaged 110 young people through 24 workshops, 4 masterclasses, 2 theatre trips, and multiple performance sharings. Despite challenges like funding constraints and retention issues, the program saw notable improvements in outreach and parental involvement, enhancing the overall quality and community connections.
New partnerships with arts organisations like the Young Vic and Brixton House offered participants valuable industry exposure. The focus on bilingual delivery and an intensive final week addressed previous feedback, creating a more professional experience for the youth involved.
The impact of LYT 2022-2023 is evident: participants reported gains in employability skills, industry knowledge, and a stronger connection to the Latinx community. This success has laid a solid foundation for future growth, supporting a more inclusive and diverse arts industry.
